The picture is not focused enough to say yes or no. It may be because of the many thorns on the cane, but I don't know how thorny Fair Bianca is. The growth is not misshapen like I see on infected plants

Hi,thanks for your reply. Here is the second photo that is clearer and shows a very thick, new growth and by comparison to the other stalks, lighter green but with red thorns. The other stalks are just as thorny but I thought this one was unusual and removed it.

Does this look like it has RRD?

This looks like perfectly healthy, normal growth.

I'd guess normal also. My roses sometimes get those hyper-thorny canes also--which always worries me also--but they have stayed healthy and thriving. Thorniness, by itself, is not a good indication of RRD, it turns out.

But I might keep an eye on it for the next few months--just to be sure. : )

I would be suspicious if such a puny rose as Fair Bianca produced a huge cane--could it be from the rootstock? The thorns look normal. On RRD canes, the thorns are typically awl-shaped and rubbery. It would be a good idea to post a SHARP picture of the top end of the shoot. If you take a number of pictures and display them on the monitor, you can tell which ones are focused.
