Garlic for getting rid of aphids on Roses?

Does it really work?
I have some aphids on my roses and read that if I plant some garlic cloves around the roses, it'll get rid of the aphids. I would like to try this, but I would like to know if anyone else has tried this and does it work? Also, can I plant the garlic cloves now? I've also seen a few ants crawling on the leaves. Thanks everyone!

I wonder if garlic powder would work?

Maybe, I can't see why you can't mix the garlic powder with the water and a drop or 2 of liquid soap? Of course, I'll leave this one to those 'in the know'

This is a new one for me but garlic seems to be good for a LOT of things so who knows? I do wonder about the smell though. I mean, we do grow roses for the scent and that scent isn't garlic, lol!

A gardenhose at high pressure should be just as effective, possibly more so -- and a great deal more pleasant.

I have never planted garlic but have used a product called Garlic Barrier which is sprayed on the leaves and is suppose to keep insects away.
First off it did not work here on our roses. My neighbor tried it on his tomato plants but it did not work for him either.
But that is here and whatever does not work here still MAY work for someone somewhere else... Who Knows?

Another thought is if it did work you would have no good insects either... The Garlic Barrier has a long list of insects it is suppose to repel I think earthworms is even listed...

Thank you Jim for mentioning the Garlic Barrier. It's interesting to learn that the garlic might repel beneficial insects. We wouldn't want that, especially earthworms or lady bugs to name a few.
