Soil for Double Knockout Rose Tree in container.

Hi, I'm going to place my Double Knockout Rose tree in a huge planter and I need help with the type of soil it needs. The DKR tree is currently planted in the ground but I'm going to remove it and plant it in a planter to keep in the garage over the winter. I planted my rose tree about 3 months ago and didn't research it to see if it would survive my winters, unfortunately it won't with winterizing it. I've decided I rather just have it in a large planter and put it in my unheated garage every year. I have a few questions before I dig it out next month.

Here are my questions

1. What type of soil should I use?
2. Can I dig it out and wash the old dirt (clay) from the roots while the tree is dormant?
3. What's a decent size planter?
