| YAY! We bought a foreclosed house and we're nearly done with battleing the stupid thistles that are EVERYWHERE in the yard. Ick. We've cut out the dying and badly-placed trees (like those less than 12" from the foundation that are 2 stories tall!!!)...
I want roses - LOTS of roses. But as I've never had my own place before and only had one rosebush years ago in my mom's garden (she didn't have any, just my single Peace rose!). I plan on using roses as the focus of both sides of the house - a nice long 30' line on two sides. I'm still needing to figure out what the normal sun exposure is on both sides (this week we'll get that done), but I have so much space to work with! There's also plenty of areas in the back and front for roses. :D 1) What plants complement roses well that could fill up the spaces? 2) Should I try container roses or bare root roses? 3) What TYPE of roses should we really look at? I like the roses that look like the ones you get in arrangements. :) Not the low level of petals, and not HUGE number generally... I also want one climber on each side of the house - I have a nice chimney at least to be covered. :) Any suggestions? I'm looking for roses that will live longer-term and grow well with OK care. I will care for them but I don't have TONS of time to dedicate to just caring for them. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP! :D |
