Fred Mistral OR Memorial Day

I have two roses from last year. They can only be Frederic Mistral, Memorial Day or, less likely, Paris d'Yves St. Laurent. Can you help me me? I think this picture with the scalloped edges is Memorial Day. What do you all think? I will try to post the other in another photo as it was too large with both.

I agree with you--it's Memorial Day. I have FM and Md, and it's definitely not FM. Diane

Awesome! Thank you!! I hate having unnamed/misnamed roses. The scent is heavenly, isn't it? And the blooms are fantastic and many at a time and often. What a rose!!! It took me 3 years for this rose to be better than - what a terrible rose. For the first two years it had a total of about 4 roses. And there was no smell. Now it's one of my very best!!! Carol |

Definitely Memorial Day. That scalloped petal edge is a dead give away trait of MD as well as the deeper pink buds and petal reverse. FM is a little paler and warmer (more yellow) shade of pink too. MD is that cool blue pink color.

Thanks Seil - I've tried looking at rose pictures on the internet - but they all seem to look the same. That's why I posted this picture - I figured the bud stage looked pretty unique. :) I've been trying to post my other mysterious rose picture - but I get a message saying (can't remember quite what) that the information was too large to post. I obviously don't know how to post properly. :) I've just being trying to post through the browse rectangle. carol

Its got to be Memorial Day. It will be intersting to see how tall your Freddie will grow in a season. Mine's a reach for the eaves in a season kind of plant.

Thanks! It feels good to have so many confirmations! Wow! To the eaves!! My Freddie (if it is Freddie) is about 3 1/2 feet tall - but it's a pretty large rose for here - nice width to it - a nice robust plant. |

That's gorgeous! I'm glad I got to find out who it is :)

I got my sister to take a picture of me in my size too big gardening jeans and my reach for the sky freddie. He really gets up there by this time every year.

Here you can see him growing in relation to the house. He covers the ugly old AC my dad put there rather well. Thank you Freddie. Doing his job faithfully every year. Sorry about the sideways pix. Hopefully I will learn to fix that this weekend.

Love your rosy umbrella, kitty, and your Fred's an impressive looking rose, too. I've got myself a rosy umbrella, but I don't get to use it much here in the land of no rain. I agree that Fred is a vigorous guy--mine is between five and six feet tall and about 7 feet wide. I really love Fred because he is an exquisite rose with a glorious scent. Right now he's perfuming the air next to my computer as he sits in a vase. Diane PS--I'll bet those pants are comfy. Mine always seem to have the opposite problem--tight.

Freddy's shorter in London Ontario, a mere six and a half feet, fully clad with leaves top to bottom (and I don't spray) and the the middle of its third full flush--- a spectacular rose. Steve
