| I see that LOVE (Grandiflora, 1977) is one of the parents of FIRE 'N' ICE (Floribunda, 1987). I've looked at the pictures on HelpMeFind Roses and to me these roses look very similar. Both are available own root from Heirloom Roses. LOVE is a classic Grandiflora that has stood the test of time. I grew it many years ago (grafted) in USDA Zone 7b (coastal Virginia) and it was one of the family favorites. It really only had two faults. First, the canes are very thorny and second, the blooms are only lightly scented at best. So I'm curious how these two roses differ. Is FIRE 'N' ICE an improvement? If so then how? | I have both and Fire n Ice is a much smaller bloom than Love. in my opinion it should have been classed as a miniflora. They do look very similar and they also are both slow growers and have a long repeat interval. They are both also black spot prone. |

| I had Fire 'n' Ice. Agree with seil, bloom is much smaller, and blows fast. A variety with similar coloring is Brandenburg Gate, which has much better form and holding power for me. |

| I also have both, and I can't say that either of them have any fragrance to speak of to my nose. I'd give Fire 'n' Ice the edge for having a somewhat lighter reverse than Love, but it's much less hardy in my zone. I've had my original Love for 5-6 years, and replaced Fire 'n' Ice several times, only lasting a maximum of 2-3 years each. It might be one of those roses that isn't good on its own roots, since it's a dinky little plant - or maybe it's just a miniflora, as Seil says. I agree with her that neither is a frequent or prolific rebloomer. Cynthia |

| Diane_NJ: Brandenburg Gate looks like an excellent rose, but unfortunately, I don't see it available anywhere. |
