This is one I've had for years and have lost the tag. I think it may be Prairie Harvest.

It could be Prairie Harvest, but doesn't look double enough for what it was here. Kim

PH has very glossy leaves and the buds have HT form for maybe one day, and normally more petals as Kim said.

I cut a bloom and plucked each petal out. It has 25 petals. Some are very small, such as those in the center.

This my Prairie Harvest for comparison---lots more petals.

You might want to check the open bloom photos on HMF for 'April Moon'. There is one photo with aged blooms that looks almost like your photo and the petal count is right.

Wirosarian, that definitely isn't my rose! Thanks for posting a good pic of it.

Rose, that's closer, but the name April Moon doesn't ring a bell with me. I got Hawkeye Belle and one other, about 15 years ago, and the HB died last year. It never looked as nice as the pics. I think the other was a Prairie Something-or-Other, but apparently not. It is about 5-1/2' tall an has very long, stiff canes and lots of thorns. I had to bend it over and hold it to get this pic. I may e-mail the pic to U. Iowa's rose people and see what they think it is. I've looked on their site and can't find it.

It's still pretty hot in our area, anywhere from 85-95 for the high most days, so it could be Prarie Harvest. A lot of my very double flowers haven't gone back to true form yet due to the heat.

Brittie, I was wondering about that. Now that it's cooler, I'll see if future blooms have more petals. And I had a large tree removed 2 months ago, so it was in partial shade, and that makes a difference, too. A lot of things have perked up now that they're getting full sun.

The descriptions I've found are right for Prairie Harvest, just the petal count is off. I just joined the Houston Rose Society, and on their web page, they say they want evaluations of Bucks roses (since they were bred for Iowa and other cold climates), and if I can figure out which one this is, I can give it a good review, since I've had it about 15 years, growing on its own roots.

I had Hawkeye Belle in a bad spot with too much shade, so I can't really tell them it didn't do well here.

Rain! Wow! I swear my plants are rejoicing and are happy with the soaking they're getting!

Another distinctive trait of PH that might help you ID it:

the cooler weather spring & fall blooms often have a reddish-orange-pink color on the tips of the flower petals

there are several pics of this trait on HMF.com, one is linked below

Wirosarian, thanks! As soon as it's cooler I'll take a look.
