Hey rosey folks: Palatine Roses is open for ordering. If your soil is compatible with R. multiflora rootstock, this is the place for you! Pounce quickly, many varieties sell out quickly. Bon chance!

Here is a link that might be useful: Palatine Roses

Even if you have alkaline soil, Palatine has great roses. I grow them in 15 gallon pots and half barrels with pumice+ peat+ redwood compost+ my soil and they do great. Palatine's quality is excellent and I like the good selection of disease resistant roses they offer. Most of mine grew roots of their own after a few years in a pot and I was able to plant them in my native soil.

well OK but, I had a quick look at one of their new roses, Splendens, as this is a favourite of mine, only to find that they are definately confused. The list of synonyms does not, and never has, applied to Splendens but far more importantly, it certainly does not grow to 5 feet - it throws out 15 foot canes in one season. However, there is a gallica splendens(which the pictured rose is not!). My advice - check the info elsewhere before ordering as careless stuff like this mis-identification just leads to misery.

Zaphod, must've been OUT OF ROSENHEIM? I also wanted it, but it's already sold out. Damn! I almost placed my order yesterday, but wanted to make sure I really wanted them all. Wish I would've gone ahead and placed the order. Oh well, ya snooze, ya lose!

Here's what I ordered:
ASCOT
MONTE CARLO COUNTRY CLUB
JULIA
PARFUM DE GRASSE
POSEIDON
SWEET BEAUTY
WEDDING BELLS
PHILATELIE
HARMONIE

I noticed they didn't offer any DAs this time. No more SUMMER SONG! How many people wanted that one?!! That's a bummer...

Yes, it was OUT OF ROSENHEIM. I went back to the website after I posted and checked my cart. I had put it in my cart yesterday, but was considering a few other additions and didn't finish the order. It was still in my cart and I went through the order process and it let me purchase it. I wonder if the inventory is managed by addition to the cart and not finalized purchases. If that is the case, there may be quantities sitting in carts that don't get purchased and are returned to inventory. Not quite sure how it happened, but my order was confirmed and they charged a deposit to my card without any problem. I either lucked out or I'll be disappointed come spring.

Beth, You'll love Ascot! I got mine this past spring and is great! I also ordered Wedding Bells, but it hasn't bloomed yet...I think its currently establishing itself, and hopefully this coming spring I'll get a chance to see it!

I actually didn't find any that I couldn't live without! I think I'll just wait to place my order with Pickering who has more OGRs :)

I purchased Ascot as well. I'll keeping an eye on it for hardiness and will make sure to winter protect.

Tammy - What are your thoughts on Ascot and BS? Are you spray or no-spray?

Zaphod, I'm no spray, with the exception of my cuttings which I try to keep extra healthy. Ascot does get some BS here, but nothing like some of my other roses that completely defoliate. I think if I even sprayed once in awhile, it would be easy to control. It just happens that the bed that it's in was new this year (with all of my Palatine purchases from this past spring), and I haven't fully mulched it as much as I would like to, so that may be part of the problem. It's sooo worth growing for it's bloom though :)

This pic was taken a couple of weeks ago....you can kind of see the leaves...

I've never ordered from Palatine before but was planning on doing so this year. I had visited the website this spring and saw they had the very beautiful Schön Ingeborg but were sold out. I checked within the last few days for this fall and no Schön Ingeborg at all. Anybody know what happened with this variety?

Out of Rosenheim is stunning!

I went for:

Duchesse de Montebello (been wanting to try it for awhile)
Angel Veranda (I'm a total sucker for anything quartered)
Roseraie de Chatelet (in the spirit of adventure)

Melissa, I ordered my Schoen Ingeborg from Vintage. I think they were offering it on their last release. I adore it! If you can get it, I definitely would!

I ordered two Kordes Aloha, a New Dawn, and a Zephirine Drouhin. I know I could have found the last two elsewhere, but I've been dying to get some Kordes roses, and since I was ordering . . . . Thank goodness I've run out of space in my garden, or I'd be broke.

I ordered Monica, Diadem and Ivory Tower. Yikes, $80 for three roses! I am a sucker for any roses by Mattias Tantau, and the two first on my list were introduced right around the time he retired, so I think he had a hand in the breeding. For my climate, I am beginning to think I prefer grafted HTs and floribundas. Kordes has introduced so many HTs, one cannot grow them all, but I particularly like subtly colored white HTs. I thought IT might be a good place to start with the Kordes HT ouvre.
