| I've been asked if I could find the identity of this rose. I posted it the other day to the Rose ID forum, which doesn't seem to have much activity, so I moved it here. I can't vouch for any scent as I've only seen it on nearly triple digit days. It's located in a south-western facing position, surrounded by concrete on about two-thirds of its circumference. All things considered, it does surprisingly well. Either it's a rather vigorous shrub, or it could be a free-blooming climber. It does throw longer canes, flowers then gets whacked back. Any ideas of what this thing is, please? It looks sort of familiar, but I can't place the name. It does not get sprayed nor fed anything other than what gets put on the lawn and all irrigation is from the lawn sprinklers. Thank you! Kim |

| A fully-open Brigadoon? Jeri |
| The coloring reminds me of that, Jeri, but the growth is more like arching shrub to shorter climber. I don't remember Brigadoon producing those "octopus arms". Good suggestion based on the color, though. Thank you! Kim |

| I've never grown Imperatrice(not sure if that's spelled correctly) Farrah but I know is has coloring like this. I do know that Brigadoon never makes "octopus arms" Just a guess! |
| My imperatrice Farrah, aka strawberry parfait , is much more petal dense than this, but the colors are right, Mendocino. |

| I posted this over on the ID forum but I'll copy it to here too. The bloom form and coloring looks a lot like my cousin's Cherry Parfait. I really can't say much about it's growth habit because our climates are so vastly different. Kathy's NEVER gets that big with our cold winters. |

| Perhaps Glenda Marie? |
| All interesting suggestions, thank you. It would have to have been something as commonly and widely available as Cherry Parfait as the owner wouldn't have known to shop by mail or seek out really obscure things. It doesn't match the Cherry Parfait foliage and growth, unfortunately. So, we're still searching! Thanks! Kim |

| Kim, of course the problem is that the pics of the blooms you posted show fully open flowers, and most of the pics on HMF and elsewhere do not. Perhaps when that bud opens you could take a pic of the bloom? Meanwhile, if you go to the eighth page of pictures of 'Rainbow Sorbet' on HMF, on the bottom left is a picture showing fully open blooms that look as if they might fade to be exactly like those of the mystery. | Susan, is that CP being grown in a container. I am planning to order one this year and I also live in zone 5 and was wondering how it would do in zone 5, any input please. Madri. |

| Could it be "Handel"? |
| it's not a faded-out 'Betty Boop'? |
| Because of the growth pattern, Handel is the best guess so far. It isn't a floribunda, from the growth it puts out; it has too many petals and virtually no yellow nor hints of yellow Betty Boop. That blamed foliage is throwing me. Hopefully, the lawn guy won't whack off the octopus arms and the buds will be available to open indoors one of the times I'm by there. Thanks. Kim |
| Yes, Madri. One of my favorite roses. The basket is an open wire frame work lined with that pressed coco moss stuff. Not too heavy and I can move her around. Appears to like the drainage! I have since moved her to the front. |
| If you're thinking of Handel, it must be much pinker than it appears on my screen. It really does look coral and ivory, here. Kim -- Look up 'Hannah Gordon' !!! The description says she can grow 7-ft. canes. I had her, years ago, and I think she acted like a climber, here. |
Here is a link that might be useful: Hannah Gordon at HMF
| Hannah Gordon is aka Raspberry Ice (floribunda, Kordes, 1983) and also Tabris Jeri |
| Thanks, Jeri. There were three floribunda/shrubs from Kordes which resembled each other greatly. They admitted to Sharon VanEnoo in a letter response to her letter all three were siblings from the came cross. Hannah Gordon and Nichole (KORicole) were two. I don't remember the third. The picotee on this could be that, but that foliage keeps tripping me. It's different from everything suggested and I have SEEN it before. Maddening. Kim |

| My imperatrice farah has more petals and turns almost completely orange during high heat. It is also seven feet tall and very upright. I wouldn't think it was that. My first guess was birthday girl, but I don't grow that one. |
| Carmagnole? |
| Kim, I'm 99% sure that's DELANY SISTERS. Mine grows like a humongous octopus, spreading outward and upward about 5-6ft, altho more outward. The canes are huge and full of nasty thorns. The blooms come on in several flushes of huge clusters. The coloring looks right and the form too. And not much scent that I recollect.

| Thanks, Beth! That's the closest to it so far, and it just may have been sufficiently readily available when it was planted. A close friend of the owner's daughter was killed and this was obtained and planted as her memorial rose. I will email the owner and see if the name rings a bell with her. Thank you! Kim |

| Gorgeous. And what a lovely friend you are. |

| You're welcome Kim. I hope that's what it is. It's a really great rose. It's almost always in bloom, and just loaded with them. The buds start out creamy white with a hint of red and open up with edges coral-red, fading to a med coral pink. One stem can make a whole bouquet. I planted mine at the front of one of my flowerbeds that joins two other beds at an intersection of walkways. I have to be careful walking in between there because this rose just takes over the whole area, and I often get snagged on one of the big canes. Wish I would've known how it grew before I planted it there, cuz it would be better somewhere else. Every yr I hack it way down, and it comes right back the next season like a big monster! |
