I was outside and seen a rose slug so decided to take a pic of it before I removed from the bush when this yellow jacket came by and took care of business! :-)

Every creature has it's place and purpose in the world. :)

There are recent pictures on the web of a golden eagle killing a deer in Russia. Attack from above is always scary.

I wish the yellow jackets would do this in great numbers all season BUT that's not the case.
The rose slugs build up to great numbers here and would strip the leaves off half or more of a large sized rose bush if you let them...

We have a cooper hawk that comes in August so the small birds leave for awhile then come back in September.... They help alittle early in season with eating rose slugs...

I was standing on our front porch in August when a small sparrow and cooper hawk flew by my face.
The sparrow went into our neighbors evergreen tree. The copper hawk went in after it but failed.....lol

Jim, those really *are* cool pictures! :-) But I have to admit that I "triple-hate" yellow jackets, because I am *extemely* allergic to them. Plus they are very much enamored of bindweed which I despise just about as much as them. Those two dirty rotters go "hand in hand". Sure they have their place. I totally get that, but I hate them both, nonetheless. :-/

Goes off muttering...*&%@! dirty, rotten', stinkin' yellow jackets and bindweed...phfft!

If you can see them objectively, I agree that JBs are beautiful, with their iridescent colors, but the damage they cause has blinded me to any beauty they might have.
