There are a number of ways to root cuttings. Check out the propagation forum. But don't count that old rose out just yet. I have a Double Delight that is at least 30 years old now. About 5 years ago I thought I'd lost it. It looked completely dead all the way to the graft coming out of winter. Since I love that rose I knew I couldn't be without it so I purchased a new one that spring from a local nursery. I didn't get around to digging out the old one and replacing it right away for some reason so it was well into July when I got to it. When I went to dig out the old one I found a surprise. It had started some new canes! Not knowing if it would be DD or the root stock I decided to dig it up and pot it and wait for it to bloom. Sure enough it was DD and is still potted, growing well and blooming on my patio. Roses are tougher than you think and can make amazing come backs! Give yours some extra TLC. Move it if it's in a bad spot or pot it up and see what happens.
