yellow leaves on container roses

Hello all!
I enjoyed growing roses in my yard so much in Illinois, when I moved to a 3rd floor apartment in Texas I thought I'd give container growing a try.

I've had the roses since March and they seem to be surviving at least, but perhaps not thriving as much as they could?
This particular one, Love Potion (from heirloom roses) seems to be yellowing its leaves a lot.

Setup: balcony faces south-east, I used Rose Magic Lady Bug brand soil (found it cheap I guess since they make it in Austin!).
The pots may be suboptimal: they have a little built-in "tray" at the bottom, I figured water could still drain out. But the soil is pretty dense, water seems to stand a while?
I'm not sure if these leaves are sunburned or underwatered or if there's something else going on.

Any help would be appreciated!
