Good roses for z6

Wow, I'm learning a lot on this forum but have a long way to go. This spring, at a local nursery, I bought a Chris Evert rose and an Oranges and Lemons rose. Of the 2, one has developed blackspot and the other is clean. I lost track of which is which- they both have beautiful orangish flowers. My question- are both of these roses ones that do well in my area? Is there a chart for geological locations for the multitude of roses? Paul

I'm in central PA so we might have the same blackspot variety and my Oranges 'n' Lemons is largely clean so I suspect that is your clean one. Is there a shape or color that you like?

Some of my favorite are:
Love (gorgeous flowers, no blackspot)
Belinda's dream (no blackspot, constant blooming)
Tiffany (vigorous, no blackspot, although Japanese Beatles love it)
Ebb Tide (love the scent! no blackspot)
Purple Splash (no blackspot)
I also have a few of the drift roses that I adore.
If you like white HT, I recommend John Paul II. It isn't super vigorous here but it is better than some of the others such as JFK. However, my favorite white is a floribunda, Moonstone. Constant bloomer here.

Here's my experience with roses...

I've had roses get severe BS in the first or second years...

I've had roses for 3 years that stayed clean from blackspot then afterwards they contacted blackspot and lost most or all of there leaves.

It all depends on the strains of Blackspot in your area and other conditions...

Like Karolina11 is also from Central Pa like me but Ebb Tide and Purple Splash got tons of BS here...
I always wondered about Oranges-N-Lemons but never tried it yet...

Best thing to do is ask other growers or a local rose society in your area which roses do best and are stable in your climate. To me its trail & error...

There are some rose growers on this forum from NY.
Maybe they will chime in...

There is a massive difference in blackspot problems from eastern to western New York. Deactivating the cloaking device is always a good idea if you want reasonably local information.

Oranges and Lemons is definitely orange and yellow stripes. Chris Evert is an orange blend with reddish edges and no stripes. That should help you tell them apart.

My cousin (she lives on the next block from me so same zone) has O&L and it has been very winter hardy for her with no protection so I think it should do fine for you.
