LOL! That works for my lazy deer. It's what I do with my tomatoes, and they don't bother trying to figure out how to get them. My eejit deer have tons of food to eat and just eat my roses and things because they think I'm spoiling them ;)
The bunnies, too, although they are usually nice and wait for a bloom to get a little old first! I don't mind them deadheading for me, lol.
But the deer wait till the buds are about to be gorgeous or have just opened in all their glory. It's just rude, I tell you!
That looks like the one that walked up to me in line at the Arby's drive-thru :D Still don't know what that was all about. I usually see females in my yard, so a buck is kinda cool to me.
Buff beauty completed her bloom. There were three blooms that needed to be dead headed. The deer did two for me, despite being caged (scratching my head). The deer also got to part of the Duchess de Brubant despite my anti deer measures. I saw a bud, so I will throw some deer repellant on it and cross my fingers.
The deer pictured and another was hanging out in the backyard, without a care in the world. I started mooing an there was no effect. I grabbed my camera and they didn't take off until I was within twenty feet. The war continues.
Awwww. I miss deer. I don't miss them grazing in the garden, but I miss seeing them about. I also miss shooting and eating them. I think I've seen 3 deer in the 8 years I've lived here.

Steve, it's funny because at the beginning I imagined the deer sticking their tongues through the wire, trying to get the buds, and got a chuckle out of it. I thought of another deer watching and saying, "dude...you're like...not even half an inch away. You can TOTALLY get that one."
I then enjoyed a few beautiful photos and a funny one...and then read about your Duchess de Brabant.
Well...have you ever seen a giraffe eat? They strip leaves off twigs with their tongues. Deer, to an extent, can do it too...
