| So I thought I had my rose orders all set to go. Then the First Prize I had picked up earlier this year had its first full set of blooms and I am in love! Thus, being newer to roses, I have to ask - are there any other roses like First Prize that I need to have?
What I love about First Prize -
What I need in a rose -
Thus, any other huge perfect blooming roses out there that will be compatible to my zone 6? Thanks!

| The bloom size that compares to 'First Prize' is 'Medallion', but I have no idea how it would do for you. 'First Prize' is a good one, enjoy! |
|
| 'Valencia.' It isn't particularly hardy, but you can grow hybrid teas successfully when exposed canes are injured. The long-lasting, fragrant flowers have extraordinary size and form. Foliage is somewhat resistant, compared to typical HTs. Plant will take a while to build up canes that can support the huge flowers. |
|
| The largest sized bloomers I have are Marijke Koopman, Sedona and Veterans' Honor. All three are very hardy too. |
|
| I agree with you, First Prize is one of my favorite roses also. Good luck. |
|
| When it comes to big hybrid teas, Peter Mayle certainly qualifies--and its deep rose color will knock your socks off. I can't imagine anyone growing HTs and NOT growing Double Delight, even though its bloom is not necessarily the biggest. The colors and fragrance on this rose are wonderful. Kate |

| Kate... I agree about Double Delight, but mine gets crisped during the summer months ... dang it. Karolina11 .... I inherited a few HTs when I purchased my home, but live in zone 8a, so I can't tell you if they are cold hardy enogh for you. I have fallen in love with one of the HTs that the previous owner of my home planted which I have tentatively identified as 'Tournament of Roses" HTs are often dissed for being disease prone, but in my climate in the mountains of northern California they are clean and prolific roses. I thought I would never grow any roses of the HT class, but I can tell you, when they are happy, they are beautiful plants with beautiful blooms. No wonder people liked them ! In southern California, I grew First Prize and it was never happy and was a real dawg of a rose. Seems like I had to learn the lesson that not all roses thrive in all climates all over again when I moved up here. Smiles, |

| Double delight, Tournament of Roses, Peter Mayle, Valencia, and Medallion are in the cart. Seil, any idea where to find the three you suggested? Having trouble locating those three but would love to get them. Thank you for the suggestions, so excited for spring! |

| I got mine locally but HMF lists vendors for all three. |

| I did a quick check on the roses above and all of them have several vendors listed on HelpMeFind. Note: Many of the nurseries listed on HMF have not updated their inventory for next year on the site, yet, and the roses may be available at other nurseries. Now taking my HMF hat off: Most of these roses were tested as budded roses long before they came to market. Some of them may do well own root, but not all. Many of the vendors are selling these roses as own root roses and you may not get the rose you expect. Smiles, |

| 'Elina' is another HT with big, full, long-stemmed flowers and good blackspot resistance compared to other HTs. It is a great performer. 'First Prize' is susceptible to mildew. often a problem for West Coast growers more than others. |
|
| MEMORIAL DAY and MOONSTONE get pretty big blooms for me, even in my high summer temps, so they oughtta be really big in your climate! |
|
| Lasting Love is a beautiful, perfectly formed rose in my 6b garden. She sometimes gets blackspot, but nothing that will completley defoloiate. FWIW, I spray about 4 times during the growing season, and I will sometimes skip her on my rounds. The blooms seem to last forever on the bush. Give her a little alfalfa, and she will be covered in blooms. |

| Beth beat me to it. I was going to say Memorial Day and Moonstone. I don't have Moonstone, I have Pristine which has a less rounded shape but the same colors. Memorial Day is equally wonderful own root as it is on grafted roots. Medallion is a super beauty but need special care and gets rust easily. Mine seems to like early sun and plenty of air circulation and water. Great Century is a really big rose but mine died of canker and I haven't gotten another yet. In cool temps Pink Peace can have some large super fragrant blooms. |
