| I completely forgot that many nurseries (out here at least) have significant rose sales in the fall. I missed Regans 50% off sale, but happened by a closer nursery with same pricing as Regan, and to my delight they also had their roses at 50% off. There were very few roses left, but to my amazement I found a Munstead Wood and Eglantyne, and a Weeks rose I hadn't heard of before - Pretty Lady. Pretty Lady was in bloom, and I was awestruck.
Next year I'll be sure to happen by at the beginning of the sale - evidently it started a month ago. Have you taken advantage of fall sales in your area? |

| You found some pretty ones! There are (or were earlier) sales around here too but I have very bad luck with fall planting so I rarely buy any. Besides, I've long since run out of room! |

| Wasn't thinking about coming winter in states that really have one. There are definitely advantages and disadvantages of living in a climate like mine. I consider California to be the ultimate rose enabler state. Every time of year is a good time to plant. With enough water they'll even thrive planted in peak of heat. Not sure how it would be trying to plant a bareroot in fall, but I know planting solid potted roses in fall gives awesome spring flushes. |

| There are no rose nurseries in my area :( I'm just happy when one of my very few local nurseries get in any rose shipments at all. Knockouts at big box stores are available year round. I'm guessing the closest rose nursery is 3 hours away. |

| Why, yes, Harmony...yes indeed. I have a delivery of 17 roses coming on Tuesday. 5 gals, all of them, from Otto and Sons (they only deliver "locally", sorry to say). And another shipment from Palatine, for 5 more. They weren't on sale, but I wanted those roses so I could "complete" (hahahahaaa....ahem) the garden plan. Those are bare root, and yes again to planting any time of year here...I'll get those in sometime in December, so we'll see how well they do being planted at that time of year. Nobody tell me of any other sales. I have far too many roses right now to know what to do with...weeks' worth of work ahead of me, too. So no one say anything else. (Sticks fingers in ears, starts singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen...."Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality...") Best- |

| Let me know if that Bohemian Rhapsody thing works for you. Wish we had a local nursery & wish it were possible to plant now without fear of losing roses over the winter. The one local nursery that used to carry roses decided to stock nothing but KO's from now on. Because, you know, there just aren't enough of them planted EVERYWHERE already. Honestly, though...all other things considered equal, this is the time of year that would be easiest for me to plant new roses, because it's a little bit cooler, I don't have as much yardwork to do elsewhere, and the ground is less swampy/boggy than it will be next spring. If only that big, orange fireball in the sky would comply with my demands for more sunlight & heat for a little while longer...... |
