| I have been training my zephrine drouhin and john cabot roses horizantal along my porch and most of the eye buds broke and formed so many lovely laterals that I could only imagine the flowers I would have next year, or so I thought at the time, but the afore mentioned laterals in some cases are now 3-6 foot long. What on earth do you do with them? Do you train them like a regular cane or leave them flopping about? When they bloom how do you prune them?
thanks for any advice grace e |

| It certainly sounds like they're healthy and happy! You don't say where you're at or what zone you're in so I don't know what to tell you about pruning right now. But if you can train the longer laterals side ways as well they should also produce more canes and blooms. However, cutting them back to the main cane should cause them to create new laterals too. A lot depends on timing though so without knowing your zone I can't say which would be best. |

| Sorry I forgot to list my zone, it is 6a. I don't think I should prune them right now as the weather is turning and according to the farmers almanac we are supposed to get a cold winter. If I train these long laterals horizontal my main thing is how do a prune them? |

| Over here, we would train those laterals down to a couple of buds. If you leave too many you will get a little bloom on all of them. |
