Any experience with DynaGro Pro-Tekt ?

Has anyone used Pro-Tekt on their roses? With winter coming, and with the costant problem insects and black spot, I wondered if the Pro-Tekt really works.

Thanks.

I was hoping someone who has used Pro-Tekt would respond but maybe the link below to a previous gardenweb posting might help. The active ingredient in Pro-Tekt is a water-soluble silicon compound, potassium silicate. Potassium silicate has been shown to control blackspot in roses to a very modest degree. It also gives very slight control of powdery mildew in grapes, at least in the reports I've read. There is concern that breathing potassium silicate will deposit silicon dioxide in the lungs and the stuff should probably never be applied as a spray.

Here is a link that might be useful: potassium silicate

I think I responded to a question like this lately. I used it as an additive to Banner Maxx, so was wearing a respirator anyway. It seemed to extend the Banner Maxx benefit a bit, but it was the Banner Maxx that did the job.

There's no natural magic bullet. That's why humans invented chemical fungicides. If something like non-fat milk or potassium silicate worked reliably, no one would use fungicides.

I wouldn't spray anything except plain water without a respirator. Even compost tea, because it contains molds and fungi and bacterias--how do you know they are all benign? Lungs are really expensive to replace.
