help making a trellis

| Any suggestion on how to make a good trellis for climbing roses? I was think of a 2x4 or 4x4 on each side but wasn't sure exactly what to put for the rose to climb on. Was thinking lattice but that may be to restricting? 8' x 10'.
ANY suggestion are appreciated.

This might help they are made out of 3/8 rebar from Home Depot. They are easy to bend and I first put them togather with electricl ties and later wired them togather. They are about a 1 1/2 feet in the ground work really good even in high winds. Harold

| I would prefer to make it all out of would or something that looks like wood. Love the pic of don juan. |

| You might try something like my fence/trellises which are 2x2 verticals with 1/2" copper horizontals. I have spaced them @ 4" on the verticals and 18" on the horizontals for all my fence sections.I have around a dozen fence sections of this and they work very well. Mine are cedar which I stain and copper which I spray with acrylic to keep it bright. To attach, you can use a copper T, a short copper nipple,a copper 90, and a copper 2 hole strap. I have an all copper trellis also which is 12' tall that I've attached to my house that way. Here's one section with a Darlow's Enigma and a White Eden early in the season..............

boxofrox, I like how that looks very much. Why do you use copper for the horizontals, strength? thanks |

| The early thought process was that I needed a horizontal to tie canes so they wouldn't slide down with the weight. I was looking for an alternative to just using another 2x2 so I decided to bore through the cedar. I sprayed the copper to keep it bright to match my copper gate (made out of 1" copper)and the amber glass post caps. The copper not only gives it a lot of strength but keeps it from warping in the weather.
