Home fire retardant

Hi all,

Started sharing my recent experience evacuating in front of a wildfire on the Antique forum and it has become an informational primer on home use of gel fire retardant. If you live in an area susceptible to wildfires, you may want to check out the info.

I'd suggest all comments be followed over there an that thread. Btw, GW has a glitch so if it says it rejected your post, check the thread first to see if it did or not to avoid dupes.

Here is a link that might be useful: Here's the link

Interesting!

It may work on homes, but I doubt it will work on rose bushes.

Actually, it probably will. If you follow the link I gave to the series of pics as the fire engulfed Clyde's Ranch and the next day, you can see the trees also look like they did the day before.

One the website for one of the vendors, a guy sprays his hand and then holds a torch to it for 30 sec (do not do this in your home) and the hand was fine (his brain is a little messed up though ;-). The key is coverage and time in that the fire moves along as it consumes what it can.

In any case, thankfully we didn't have to test it. Fyi, I've been up the road a few times now. Run off will be a big problem as the surface layer of soil is, and I may not have the correct term, but 'vulcanized' due to the heat. Otoh, I'm betting the yuccas, which look like pineapples right now, will sprout in the spring, we'll see..
