Pics online show it to be a really interesting color. Are those true representations? More salmon than pink. Thoughts on this rose? Hardiness and disease resistance? Thanks!

Zaphod, I can't speak to what it might do where you are, but in my Newhall garden and close enough to the ocean to hear and smell the surf at the beach, Nigel was amazing. It is the healthiest, most vigorous of the three original Harkness Hulthemia hybrids available in the US. Completely disease free, with the largest flowers and gorgeous foliage. I WISH that had been the one to prove itself fertile. Imagine the results had Rugosa been engineered into the Hulthemia hybrids. Yes, it's more salmon to flesh than "pink". If you can get it, grow it. Nigel is a gorgeous oddity for your collection. Kim

zaphod42, You might want to check Lois Hole's Book of Roses (I don't remember the exact title and I'm away from my library tonight) for specifics on winter hardiness. She gardened in Alberta Canada and has a picture of a huge bush of one of the Harkness hybrids that grew at her home. You know how to tell cars from Alberta? they have electric extension cords sticking out of their radiators to plug in and keep the radiators and engines from freezing solid in winter. That cold it is up there. I think she relied on snow cover for protection for her roses

Yes, I have gone to her greenhouse many, many times. She died quite a few years ago of cancer, I think. She funded a hospital for women's concerns. She wrote many a book on gardening. As to the extension cords - yup! Carol

Its been a part of the Heirloom offerings for the last couple years. Still on the site, but listed 'OUT OF STOCK'. I emailed and they said they'd know whether it will be available in spring sometime next month.
