What to do?

I got three small roses late spring. They are minis, but they are not tiny ones. I planted them in one gallon pots, but was informed the other day that it would have been better to plant them in three gallon pots, which I don't have.. I have a heated garage but I know that would not be good. I have an unheated small greenhouse but was thinking of sinking the pots in dirt. I would hesitate to disturb them by transferring them into three gallon pots when they are pretty much established. I would think it would be better to see how they do in the containers this winter and then perhaps plant them directly in the ground next Spring. Would like to hear your comments. Barb
