Oh my -- looks/sounds like prime conditions a-brewing for the wind-blown migrations of RRD mites. (Groan . . .)

Connie has a great blog! I enjoyed her recent post regarding how she transplanted her roses back from Sacremento...I myself wondered how that would work. Hope everyone stays safe and inside! I grew up in Florida and dealt with my fair share of hurricanes. Not something to take lightly. Prayers for everyone in its path! Tammy

Thanks for the shout out. Part of my preparations for the storm is to finish removing my last RRD infected rose (America, Walsh rambler, and it's a big one.) The big trees here are pretty leafless, so I hope this helps them better withstand whatever wind they are subjected to. Tammy, my roses made it home safe and sound through the mail from Sacramento. I took them to the Post Office on Tuesday afternoon, and they arrived here in great shape on Thursday. Expensive, which is another reason why I didn't ship nursery plants to Ca., but worth every penny to get them here safely.

Connie we have family near Washington. Yesterday, we forwarded your blog to them as we did not think that they were taking the storm as serious as they should (once a parent, always a parent). It sounds like you are doing everything possible to prepare. It appears to be too big to easily run from, but that is another option. I experienced running from a meeting in upper New York to Ohio during one of the previous "big ones". Good luck.

Sandy knocked over my trellis. I have to go out today and find something to support it. The winds are a little stronger here on the west coast of Florida than I expected. We haven't seen any rain just continuous wind. The wind gusts might have achieved tropical storm force in my yard. My point is that this is a big storm and the wind field is very large. Even if you aren't right near the center of circulation the winds may be very strong. Maybe it because of the hybrid Jet Stream/hurricane interaction.

The breeze is already picking up here ... from a northerly direction. It's not particularly windy, it's just a definite shift in direction and temperature. Blowing some more leaves off the trees, which is a good thing.

I live right near the Smokies and they've already had 7 inches of snow in the higher elevations. We're suppossed to have some snow tomorrow morning mixed with wind gusts up to 50 mph. I never thought when I moved to TN from FL that I'd have to deal with the affects of a hurricane again! It's really wild! The only thing I'm worried about is I haven't gotten my plants ready for winter this early! Hoping that they do ok!~ Tammy
