| A lady down the street has 2 or 3 roses in her back of the fence flower bed.
She thought one was "Bonica", does this look like Bonica?
a bit of mildew from being in the shade I guess
Any guesses on which rose this is?
It is taller and a climber
The second rose has a scent, the flowers are about 2" wide, a deeper pink, the first one none that I can tell.

The color of the first 2 & last pics look more like 'Royal Bonica' than 'Bonica' to me. 'RB' is a sport of 'Bonica'.

I agree with wirosarian. It's Royal Bonica, a wonderful rose and sport of Bonica. I had two hedges of this rose, and I'd love to have them again at this location. I think Hortico is the only place to order Royal Bonica now. A friend of mine ordered one from them not long ago. Diane

Just one other comment--my Royal Bonicas were an upright, full shrub in form, and the photos show a rose that is more gangly than my RBs were. But the blooms themselves do look very much like RB. Diane

The climbing rose, is that the gangly one you are referring too nanadoll? That is the second pink rose. They are different. It looks like Armstrong had Royal Bonica at some point. The neighbor told me the nursery that she bought them from and I think they do sell some Armstrong products. These bushes live pretty much in the shade of the fence, north facing, so they might stay a bit smaller or be a darker color since the sun and heat are not as strong there. The are also in some pretty ugly "soil". Any guesses on the second rose? I know the neighbor told me and my mind is a total blank on it.

I think I was a little mixed up about the climber. The first two photos look like Royal Bonica; the third pic looks too light. I don't know what the climber is. RB was about 3 to 3 1/2-inches wide. Diane

I've been wanting another Royal Bonica for forever! Mine died during a transplant :( The 2nd could possibly be Social Climber. But that's only if the name rings a bell. The flowers sound a bit small for her, but it's possible. Or even Bow Bells (with small flowers)? Social Climber would probably have a mix of bloom forms on the whole shrub, and Bow Bells blooms are usually a bit more bowl-shaped, but if the names ring a bell, I'd believe either.

Ooo Ooo - your first picture. I just bought a rose that appeared mislabeled. Was labeled as a mini, and leaves were quite small (but so was the tiny bush), with one 3 1/2 -4" bloom that looked exactly like the bottom bloom in your first photo. I'd not seen that bloom form before - it is beautiful.

I agree that the first one is more likely RB than Bonica. I've seen gorgeous fences lined with the original Bonica and the blooms were a much lighter shade of pink than in your photo. They're not quite as "candy" pink as those but more pastel in tone. Don't know what the climber is but it does look similar to Meredith's suggestion of Social Climber. They're both really lovely and pretty vigorous if they're growing and blooming so well in those terrible conditions you described!

My experience with Bonica was that it did not like warm winters and was far more impressive with some chill. Lovely rose. I planted The Fawn to replace it and have not been unhappy since.

If it is Royal Bonica, with a patent date of 1994, it would still be under patent right? Bonica is 1983, it would be out right?
