Does Pickering still graft Gallica and Damask on R. Laxa as the website indicates?

I was wondering about Weeks Roses as they are carried by a local nursery here. Of course I've asked nursery personnel but they never know... Haven't search Weeks website though and will pass on any info once I get around to it.

I talked to someone at Pickering, last year in the spring (2012) I think, and she said they hadn't used laxa for anything for several years+. I had called to ask which of my roses I'd purchased from them were on multiflora versus those on laxa--because of just what you found on the website SCG. So I was surprised to learn none of my roses from them were on laxa. Fyi my purchases have included Aimable Rouge (gallica), Four Seasons Rose (damask), R. primula (species), Williams Double Yellow (hybrid spinosissima), Rene d'Anjou (moss), Soupert et Notting (moss), Wild Edric (rugosa), Polareis (rugosa), Madame Georges Bruant (rugosa) Juno (centifolia), Quatre Saisons Blanc Mousseux (moss).

Last time I checked Palatine was using multiflora.

I have found that Weeks roses are grafted to both multiflora and Dr. Huey. It depends on the supplier. Some nursery personnel know, but I have actually had the nursery pull a rose from the nursery can so that I can determine what root stock they are using .... only once ... lol.

I have found one nursery up here that grafts to Dr. H. and trust their supplier because I haven't seen grafts that good for more than 20 years.

Tessiess, Thanks for the info. I guess I could have called them. Impressive list of roses you received. I wish they still had some of them in stock. BTW, how early of a bloomer do you find Williams Double Yellow in comparison to the others?

In general, you can assume that if the grower is located in the U.S., the rootstock is probably Dr. Huey.

If the grower is located in Canada, the rootstock is probably multiflora.

Not sure where people go to find fortunata (how is that spelled?) rootstock--I believe Floridians often prefer it.

K&M Roses and Cool Roses sell grafted on Fortuniana. Also, Wisconsin Roses sells newly grafted/budded on R. multiflora.

While not a retail nursery, PanAm Nurseries out of Vancouver, BC is on multiflora and Dr. Huey.
