| So I've come to finally accept that my brand-new Eden Climber got RRD. I tried fertilizing and cutting off offending canes but they grew back.
As we had some unusually warm weather, I was out in the yard and checked again. As a newer rose grower, should I just dig it up and burn it? I'm so disappointed, this was the one rose I really wanted to grow. As a side question--is there a climbing rose that you would recommend to grow over a metal arbor? Thanks for any help. |

| Are you certain of your diagnosis? Could you please post pictures? Before doing anything drastic, it would be good to be sure that this is RRD. |

| I agree, please try to post some pictures before you destroy the plant! RRD can be hard to diagnose - I have been wrong before. Even if it IS RRD, please don't be discouraged! You can always replace your Eden (yes, its such a lovely rose!) If it is RRD and you replace, I'd plant Eden in a different place, just to be on the safe side (my understanding is its ok to replant if you get all the infected roots, but sometimes that is hard to do). As for a climber for a metal arbor - gosh, there are so many to choose from!!! Can you give us an idea of what you are after - color, large or small flowered, is fragrance or lack of thorns a priority, approximately how large? Meanwhile, please don't give up, and do try to post some pictures of your Eden so the experts (not me, I'm no expert, but there are some here on the forum) can weigh in! Best, Frances |
