| Sorry guys, I'm sure this must be a really basic question, but I'm feeling a little intimidated because I'm such a newbie! Thanks so much for all your help before!
I just got some roses in the mail, but there are some dark spots on a few of the leaves? Is this black spot?
I read this:

... so... should I be worried about it spreading to t he other roses that DON'T have the spots...? should I remove the spotted leaves?
I'm planning on planting these today unless you guys tell me I shouldn't! Husband is required to help.

You can remove the leaves if you want. Just cut them with scissors. Make sure that when you plant them to leave enough space for the size the bush will eventually grow to. When they are young it does not seem like they will ever need all of the space they are getting when first planted. Lance

This is probably blackspot. The lesions are characterized by fringy margins. You may as well remove the spotted leaves now, as they will die anyway. No need to worry about blackspot in Southern California. You don't have enough rain for it to be a chronic problem. No need to worry about introducing any fungus to the garden. Either it will always be there because the climate favors it or it will rarely if ever be much of a problem. (Possible exception might be downy mildew.)

thanks so much you guys, I feel better now! Since these are bands,... some people had recommended growing them in a gallon or 2 gallon pot for a month or three before putting them in the ground. Should I do that? or should I just plant them directly? These are mostly Madame Alfred Carriere... so I know they're going to get huge if I treat them well.

OK either way. I would plant them out, others would pot them on.

If your soil is good I say go for it right into the ground. Although I pot them up to move them around for protection from the sun, at this time of year I imagine it won't be a problem.
