Opinions on re-potting this late in the season

I just received my only late Fall order from High Country. They ship in 1qt pots, and I'm trying to decide if I should repot them into 1g pots, or let them be for the winter. They came from a cooler Colorado environment, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Also, I don't if variety makes a difference. The varieties I have are Crested Moss, Westerland, Ralph's Creeper, Alfred Colomb.

Another question, some of my rooted cuttings are getting big and are ready to be switched to 1g pots. Should I let these stay in their plastic Solo cups or repot them as well? They're in one of those zipper greenhouses, and haven't gone dorment yet.

Thanks for the advice :)
Tammy

Will you leave these pots outside over winter or in the greenhouse?.......Maryl

I'd repot them, period. If you get hard freezes, larger soil balls insulate better than small ones. If you don't, larger root balls tend to remain damper than smaller ones, so keeping them watered should be easier. They're likely to continue growing in the pots over winter (in most climates). Why risk having them become too root bound over winter when you could easily benefit from that time, permitting them to develop faster? It's probably more comfortable for YOU to repot now than when it's hotter (and probably more humid), so why not? It's almost bare root time, anyway, so any root disturbance which may occur is probably easier for them to handle now than it may be later. Unless they are already so densely root bound they need loosening, I would personally not loosen or trim any roots if at all possible, but just slip the soil balls into new, large masses of potting soil. I agree with Kim. re-pot them now being as careful as possible to not disturb any of the existing root balls when you do. Bigger pots = more soil= better insulation. If you have a greenhouse or a very protected place for them that would be best.

Sounds good! I'll move them into the larger pots tomorrow. As for where they'll be after they're repotted; the rooted cuttings will be kept in a zipper greenhouse, and the ones from High Country will be moved into my winter pot ghetto. The plants that they sent were good sized, so they should have some good root deveopment.
