| As I understand it a sucker comes from below the bud union on a grafted rose. Does that mean from the lower part of the swelling or actually below the swelling on the trunk?
I have a couple of grafted roses with the same rosy pink hellacious shooting cane coming out from the bud union but at the very bottom side of the bud union. GST says to use a the grasp part of a hammer and jerk that sucker out. I'm not sure I have the moxie for that at this point. Any suggestions? Susan |

| If I couldn't tell for sure, I would wait until some leaves/thorns mature and compare them to leaves/thorns of the scion. However, new shoots coming in late October and November will probably not survive the winter in any case. |

| Okay. Thanks Michael! Susan |

| If they're coming from the graft, even from the lower side of the graft, they're probably not suckers, but it's possible they're suckers coming from a growth bud right up against the graft. So as stated above, wait til you're sure, from the foliage and thorns. |
