Rose problem, help!

I have a couple of Pinata climbing roses growing along the walls on either side of my garage. One of the roses began to show signs of a problem, it was looking sickly but without any specific issue. I decided to dig down into the soil to determine if I had a couple of grubs (common in our area). No grubs but a swarm of carpenter ants in the soil I believe. I mixed some Malathion with water in correct proportions and watered in to the soil to kill off the insects. I filled the soil back in and hoped I had resolved the issue. It perked back up but new leaves have dark red margins - NOT brown as in leaf scorch but dark red. I have fertilized the roses appropriately with Bayer Systemic fertilizer. The red along the leaf margins is really stumping me as I cannot find a thing written about it. The plant is attempting to put out new leaves but I feel still struggling. I am looking for solutions.
