| On HFM, I see this sometimes: "In September 1998, the Montreal Botanical Garden (Le Jardin Botanique de Montreal) carried out a survey of its roses' resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust. This is one of the outstanding varieties which showed a 0% to 5% infection rate. The data were taken on well-established roses."
And also this: "One of the Roses that "passed the test" in Longwood Garden's Ten-Year Rose Trials." Does anyone have the full results of the Montreal Botanical Garden or Longwood Garden trials? I'd like to see what other roses passed the trials. |
Follow-Up Postings:

| The Longwood and Montreal trials took place quite a number of years ago (13 yrs ago in Montreal's case, as you point out). Like all rose trials, both have relevance primarily for the specific locales in which they were conducted. The results of the Montreal Botanical Garden trials appeared either here or on the Antique Rose Forum several years ago. I can't locate that thread using the search function, but perhaps someone here might have saved it. Unfortunately, as it turned out, the thread about the trials included the name of the curator of gardens in Montreal who kindly supplied the results of the trial. Several of us later learned privately that the curator received a number of surprisingly inhospitable emails protesting/contesting the rose trial results, leaving her with good reason to regret ever having provided the information. I think its important to reiterate that knowing the results from Longwood and Montreal would be most helpful for those who garden, respectively, in the Delaware Valley of PA and the Canadian province of Quebec. If we've learned anything on these forums, it's that it's impossible to generalize about the performance roses. |

| Thank you so much for posting! This is very helpful! |

| I have 2 of the above on order from Pickering-- Duc de Cambridge (damask) and Aimable Rouge aka Le Triomphe (gallica) Both of them are in their final season of offering from Pickering, so waiting until next year is not an option. I ordered multiple other roses from Pickering, also with the "final season" designation. Sad to see them go, but with the economy being what it is, and rose sales in general down, I can understand the decision not to carry as many antiques. Who knows if many of these will be in commerce in 2013 anywhere else. Melissa |

| You are very welcome, of course. Ca va sans dire. I have a garden in decline in zone 4, VT that I'm trying to rejuvenate. I will only buy VDR, very disease resistant roses. So I completely understand. I hope this will help as well. Chris Longwood Garden's Ten-Year Rose Trials. | Those that know can help you grow. And as is so often reiterated here, those with experience in a similar climate will provide the best input. I recommend Anne, annececilia. | Did you acquire any of the roses named in the trials? If so, how are they doing? If not, did you get others that are doing well? |

| strawberry, Thank you, too. I find many of your links helpful and I always appreciate that. Speaking of which, I want to thank you again for giving us the link to hoovb's blog! I love your enthusiasm, your desire to learn, and your efforts to draw conclusions from your experience. I'm very excited that you've taken an interest in hybridizing and that you have been warmly received in that forum. I wish you great success as I do all of our hybridizers/breeders. May I ask, because I've always wondered, about your screen name? It is an Austin rose, yes? But I can't recall you ever mentioning that you grow it. |

| Hi Chris: My kid suggested I used "Strawberry hat" as user's name, but I thought she said "Srawberry head", so I changed it to "Strawberryhill", yes, it's an English rose which I wanted but Roses Unlimited was sold out. I would prefer using "Straw" for short. |
