Questions - Climbing Iceberg or Climbers in general

After flowering in the spring do you prune your climbers or leave them alone?

Last year in Dec. I cut the laterals to about 1 foot and the spring bloom was good for the second year. I left it alone after that to see what would happen. After spring, blooming was sporadic. By the end of summer some of the laterals were 8-10' long. I was hoping they would flower heavily in the fall. Nope.

This year should I cut those long summer laterals by 1/2 like David Austin recommends in his summer pruning comments?

My plant is 3 years old, own root and growing in its current location for 2.5 years.

Here it is last spring.... the coral climbers at the ends are America(s). The pink rose in the lower left is Louise Odier and the purple on the lower right is Reine des Violettes. Not sure how this will all work out but I like to experiment.
