I recently received a catalog with a new purple rose in it. It was a light purple/lavender rose. It was supposed to be a great producer and fragrant. I want to order it and now I can't remember the name of the rose or which catalog I saw it in. Does anyone here know?

Edmunds had 'Love Song' from Weeks that looked good. Purple, 'Twilight Zone'?

Love Song? It is sold out on this site, but will likely be in all the garden centers that distribute bare roots from Weeks in the near future, whenever they are distributed in your zone.

That's it! Thank you! Has anyone tried it? Is it truly a brand new rose, or just new for some distributors?
|
That one looks promising. I hope it really is everything they claim. I could use a lavender!

I saw it at some of the shows earlier this year. Wasn't all that impressed, frankly. Sprays were VERY droopy, and the blooms looked short-lived.

I think I might have seen it in Witherspoon's catalog as well.

Hmmm...disappointing news, Kathy.
|
It looks wonderful, but not as wonderful as Angel Face.

Henry do you have any more information on what that article discusses? We would obviously all love a real blue rose but I am seeing that this company has supposedly been selling blue roses since 2009?

It's true that Suntory's rose has blue pigment, and has the *potential* to be blue, but it doesn't express as any "bluer" than the mauve/lavender/purples already on the market. The delphindin (blue) gene was spliced into the rose by genetic engineering. But true-blue flowers have much less acidic flower petals than roses. The acidity of the rose petals prevents the delphindin pigment from developing to its full potential. Where this rose's value will lie is as breeding stock, used to pass on the delphindin gene while breeding for a rose with less acidic petals; THEN we'll have a BLUE rose. John
