| Woo Hoo! I followed the advise of folks on this board and fooled the rose seed into refrigerator for good 8 weeks, now got about 10 seeds to germinate. Yesterday I potted the seeds that were getting small roots into potting soil small pots, and placed it at South Facing window sill. I will post pictures once I see true leaves come out.
I cant wait to see what color and type of rose it bears. I am so excited that I am planning to sow about 40 more seeds from very strong varities of my yard. Lets get the rose party going! |

| Hi Ladyrose65, I will be happy to trade rose seeds, I am waiting on some monster sized hips to ripen in next few weeks. Roses on parent tree are monster size with deep fregrance. seil, yes, cant wait, I will post pictures once I see first true leaf. My understanding is when germination of seed occurs, roots are the first ones to poke out of shell. |

Thanks Behlgarden. I tried Winter Sowing some rose seeds, the reached about 1 inch and died back to nothing. I put Captan and cornmeal juice to try stopping them from dying off. So let us know your soil mixture. |

| I germinate my seeds inside. I never had any luck winter sowing any kind of seeds. They froze or rotted and never came up. I do mine in damp paper towels in baggies in the fridge and when they germinate I put them in seed starter trays. That's what has worked best for me. |

| I did exactly how Seil does, in moist paper towerl in baggies in fridge, and when I see sprouting of roots, I moved them into seed starter mix from Miracle Gro in a pot and kept it on window sill. I am still waiting for leaves to come out, I understand that it may take a week or so for leaves to appear after sprouting of roots. Lets see what I get |

| Got 6 more that poked green out of the pot. Now waiting for it to get a growth flush. these pots are sitting in my home at Southern window sill soaking good noon sun and flat 72 degrees heat from central heating. Will post pictures when I get a set of true leaves. On another note, I will have a lot of seeds that will ripe by the end of the month. let me know if anyone wants them. |

| After initial sprouting, the seedling sat there and now appears as if it wants to die. I have it at the window sill where it gets winter sun, however lately I have been turning on central heating and that may be what its not liking. I plan to move it out into the wild to die instead of dying inside. |

| It may be too dry, behl. Not the soil but the air. The heating brings down the ambient humidity. If you can put it on a tray of pebbles with water in it but not touching the bottom of the cup. That will bring up the humidity around the plant. |

| That could be it. I have a tray but bottom of pot sits in the pool of water thereby over watering the plant while the top of plant is losing moisture at fast pace. Will make a few changes and see what happens |

| Mercury, That seedling died. THen I got caught into grafting fruits and roses. All my other seeds I ended up putting into ground and none came up. I have bigger plans for next time. Right now I am loaded with jumbo size bubs and seeds are forming, I will definitely save seeds and even distribute online here for free. I want to taste success of growing from seed, I am desperate. |
