Thanks for posting this link, Steve. I enjoyed watching it. I liked the interview with the Beales family, and I watched the exhibitors' preparations for rose shows with some amazement.

I watched it late last night and again this morning. It was all interesting. I didn't know there was a white species rose. I thought they were all pink! I hope to smell the Fetzer Syrah rose someday. That rose and wine combination looked delicious.

Thank you for posting that! I really enjoy it.. Any others? Although it's not about roses, have you see The Desire of Botany? It's a fascinating history of potatoes, apples, tulips and marijuana.

That Rayford Redell video is a nice Rose 101. I should have seen that a year ago.

I watched the Rayford Redell video and have a couple of questions. During the pruning demonstration, he made a point that pruning was important to remove twiggy growth and open the center for good air circulation. Then shortly after, he showed the rose Bonica and stated he never pruned it. Wouldn't Bonica need good air circulation, etc. as well? Or is it a type of rose that doesn't need pruning? I enjoyed the video. I thought adding manure to the mulch was a good tip. Is that a typical practice of any rose growers here? Thanks.

Bonica doesn't need pruning, just cut the dead wood out once in a while. Pruning, if when and how, depends upon the type of rose. Hybrid Teas need the most pruning. Most of the OGRs and shrub roses need little to none.

Steve, I just finished watching the BBC special and enjoyed it very much. I wasn't familiar with several of the featured roses so it was quite educational.

It is an informative show. I actually learned a few things. I never deadheaded my roses that way. It is good to know that the top leaves help the plant get stronger. I also thought it is good to know to bury the graft.

Having said that, I enjoy the different opinion of the individual guest's choice of roses. They may not be hardy in my area but it is always nice to discover other types of roses other people enjoy somewhere else.

I think you are talking about the BBC show"The Great British Garden Revival." IT had segments on many types of gardens. It is having a second season at the moment and the first episode of the second series is on roses, same presenter, this time more emphasis on old roses.

I love British gardening shows, they are so much better than anything in USA at the moment. If you subscribe to Garden World youtube site, you will have a huge variety to choose from.
