| This is an Archduke Charles bloom from bud stage to full bloom. This took place over a couple of days. Sorry about the poor lighting in the last photo. Notice that the buds start off crimson, then bloom out light pink, then turn crimson again. Imagine a bush full of these blooms at various stages of bloom and you have many shades of pink on the same plant. It's a wonderful effect.

jovy, so far I only know roses that change color from a dark color to a light one, basically they are fading out. I was not aware that it is possible that a rose can change back color from dark to light to dark pink again. How interesting! Thanks for posting! Christina

Lovely pictures! This rose is interesting and different in each photo. I had this rose some years ago and for me it mostly turned dark red very quickly, probably because of the heat. In the right climate I think this is a great rose. Ingrid

In the heat of summer, this rose does indeed turn crimson almost immediately. However, in the spring and fall it stays lighter pink for a while before turning red. The fragrance is also interesting in that it has a peppery scent to it.

Beautiful pictures! Archduke Charles is one of my first Chinas and still the favorite. I have another rooted and it will probably replace one of the thrips magnets now in the garden.
