| Thanks again you guys for all the recommendations. Now that the roses are in their second spring, I'm getting more blooms and I'm really enjoying going out each morning and seeing a new thing blooming!
In particular I was posting about Archduke Charles, which I very specifically got due to recommendations on this forum, since I wanted a changeable vibrant tea or china. I think perhaps they smell like apples!! Also interesting is that it goes from a intense reddish pink bud, and then it opens to this (below) with a paler pink center and then as it ages even more, the whole bloom turns intense reddish pink again (not shown). At this last stage, its changing to reddish pink due to sun/heat I think? Because where one petal shades an other petal there is a pale shadow underneath! Its really fascinating actually!
More blooms:
I got Carding Mill mainly because of Ingrid. This is my first proper bloom on it and I love it!
A couple more blooms from recently: LA FRANCE CL

| Love 'em! I'm going to go to HMF right after this to look up the Archduke. It's funny--or maybe common for rose lovers--but I go out each day now that its spring to see what is happening in the roses. I look for new buds and see the progress of the unfurling of the sepals. So far, I don't have much blooming but some of the more modern ones, i.e. a Baby Blanket standard and Pink Iceberg. Christopher Marlowe is tottering on the brink of blooming as is Louise Odier. Madame Hardy is taking her sweet time leafing out from dormancy just like last year. Her blooms seem so far off! But I continue to check daily! Good show on your roses and keep posting pics! | :) :) here's a bad indoor photo of the shading I'm talking about on an older Archduke bloom: |

| Beautiful pictures, Aimee. The darker blooms on a more mature bloom that is in the sun is a characteristic of China roses. Most of them will do this. Carding Mill is beautiful in your photo and I'm thrilled that you like it. I was glad to see La France since we just planted a band of the bush form yesterday. I especially like the shading of the pinks in the second picture. Keep posting, we'd like to see more of your roses. Ingrid |

| Ingrid, I had no idea about chinas! that's super cool. Im definitely enjoying it, I guess I'm easily amused. :D La France, the under-petal shading in that is part of the reason I think it's very beautiful. Also, I think the large pointed petals on such a round shaped bloom is very charming. I think you'll be happy with La France Mine's the cl version, but still. It grew really fast, too. it seems like a happy natured rose. |

The changing color is the reason I love Mrs. Dudley Cross so much. Here she is getting ready to change. A new favorite is General Galleini |
