In my garden this little band has produced some gorgeous, large blooms. There have been a few forum people who've described the color as an unattractive mustard that fades to an even more unattractive dirty cream but I found the color to be rather interesting and thought it would blend with the lilac pink, white and lavender colors in my garden more so than a more golden yellow. For me it's a delicate yellow that fades to an even lighter yellow which looks good with everything. Interestingly, on the main rose gallery someone posted pictures of CD which had a darker color which was also very nice. Perhaps it depends on the climate zone.

It looks quite nice in the photo, I agree that more mild colors are easier to match with other plants.
