Jude the Obscure
Gloire de Dijon. This is my second bloom on this tiny band. But every time the bloom gets to about this stage... something EATS it. I took this photo yesterday, and today the bloom is totally gone. Like something ate the whole bud and part of the stem right off. >:( I haven't been able to see a mature bloom of it because of this.
Lavender Pink Noisette's first bloom
William Shakespeare 2000

Oh My -----those mountains are breathtaking-----about your roses-----My DH makes little fences of chicken wire to protect the little roses---I put them on the little babies to keep them safe from rabbits---groundhogs or whatever wants to nibble on them. I have all size circles for the roses. Florence

Aimee, lovely rose babies that you have there! I like Jude the Obscure and William Shakespeare 2000 in particular. The damage on Gloire de Dijon that you are describing sounds exactly like what happens to my rose bands in my garden. Here rabbits are responsible for that. They can be very, very destructive! Your view is breathtaking! Christina

Aimee, wonderful little roses and big beautiful view. Would you mind sharing in what area you live? I too have Mrs. Wood's Lavender Pink Noisette and love the color, although at the moment it has mildew. It's a great rose though. I think Wm. Shakespeare is my favorite, beautiful color and form. I also have rabbits and various other rodents in my garden. I make a circle of thorny rose canes, several layers high, around the little roses and that seems to deter the nibblers. Ingrid

Isn't Jude wonderful? (Not that your other roses are not!) Your view is spectacular. The skies have been so uniquely beautiful in Ca this spring. Some people complain about the rain and cool temperatures but I've been loving it. Especially the skies.

Ingrid, you can't see that view directly from my house but a lot of the areas near me you can see the mountains like this! I live in the Santa Clarita area (north of Burbank/LA) I'm not sure if my rose is Mrs. Wood's or if it's just Lavender Pink! Ah well, we'll see how it does. I'll try and get some form of protection up for my shorter bands, soon. THanks guys, I didn't even think of that! huttnem, I agree about the clouds! Those mountains with the sun moving over them... it's easier to see them when the clouds have cleaned out the air and cause the light to move in beautiful ways.

Lovely mountains Aimee! Jude is such a lovely rose, isn't he? :) I love GdD too, mine is much bigger though, when he roots in, he can grow vigorously.
