Species rose, r. californica ... I think

This was photographed at Lake Crescent in Olympia National Park. I'd never seen such an enormous thicket of roses, which I THINK is r. californica. If it's not and you know for sure, please correct me as I'm just guessing. It was beautiful, though.

This first shot shows how large the thicket is ... all those shrubs to the left and right of the sign

Lovely rose, Gean, and an incredible setting. That's spectacular.

Jean, That's more likely to be r. nutkana, native to the area.

You're right, Sue. I found distribution maps of both californica and nutkana. Rosa californica isn't mapped any further north than Oregon, but nutkana is in most of the western states.

They sure look alike to my eyes, though. thanks for the help, Sue.

Hi, Krista,
It is a really beautiful area, and that rose is really amazing in its bloom and health. Yowza! Thanks, Krista.
