Fru Dagmar and other delights

She isn't very big yet--just a little thing planted this spring--but proud mama wants to show her off. Here is little Fru Damar Halstrup--I just love those wrinkly rugosa leaves and the delicate pale pink bloom, which my camera just didn't quite capture.

With very little free space left in my gardens, I decided to get a couple smaller and different roses--not that different in the big rose world, but different in my garden. One was The Fairy which is not in bloom now, but here is my brand new Mothersday (polyantha) blooming for the first time. She is so bright and cute.

We've had 100+degree temps here for the past couple weeks--not a lot of roses blooming, but here is Molineux, hardly phased at all by the heat, blooming happily away, although more creamy apricot with a touch of pale yellow in real life. My camera seems to accentuate the yellow.

Hope that brightened your summer a bit.

Fru Dagmar is a really darling rose and I think you're going to love this rose as it matures. Rugosas don't do well here but I've seen beautiful ones in different public gardens and I really admire them. Mother's Day is a beautiful rose. Molineux seems to be one of the really good yellows.

I like the pale green rugosa leaves too! And polys are one of my favorite roses. Much underrated little bloom machines!

i am a big fan of polyantha roses, and Mother's Day is really nice. I don't think I'd seen that one before - but do know the Fairy is a nice rose too. Thanks for your pictures - hope the heat breaks soon.
