Very pretty. They look so healthy and full. I love the contrast of the delicately colored Faith Whittlesey blooms with with the new red leaves. And look at that beautiful bud. Does your Devoniensis seem like it's going to do well for you in z7? It's such a lovely rose. |

| Gean, I just put my Faith Whittlesey in the ground a couple of weeks ago. Yours is sooo gorgeous. I really do like it better than Devo though I know she's a great beauty. DH's mom's maiden name was Whittlesey. That's why I got her. She's planted at the side door next to the grill so he will be able to see her often. Yum, yum. Sherry |

| Garden2Garden, I was warned that Dev is a very slow grower, but I couldn't resist the pictures I've seen of it. It hasn't bspotted but it really is s l o w. Jeri once posted a pic of Dev that was 100 years old from a cemetery in California. I figure any rose that can produce like that one at such an age deserves a little patience on the front side. I've read it likes really rich soil and to be kept moist, so I pamper it. The one Jeri posted was in a drought situation and completely untended. I was so excited when it finally put out a couple of blooms. Thank you for your kind words about the pics. Faith is a machine; really healthy and a constant bloomer. It was planted the same time that Dev was, but what a difference. Sherry! Thanks for the compliments. I hope you'll love Faith. Yumm, steak-fragranced blooms. Dh would love that! Florence, thank you so much. It's been a good summer with lots of rain and the roses have really responded to that. Gean |

| Beautiful! and they must be a wonderful addition to your garden, and ummm, speaking of that garden, if/when you have time it'd be wonderful to see more pics like those you posted back in the spring (hint hint). That post was titled "Welcome to my garden - pictures of the back" - I did a search on it :-) it was sooooo pretty. I'd love to take another stroll there! But I know sometimes life gets busy and we don't always have time, but if you do .... Frances |

| Gean, how long have you had your FW? My baby's first 2 flowers were/are quite small with fewer petals than yours, but she's got 4 buds coming. Which reminds me, I guess I should cut them off, huh? Yeah, right. Yours is so lovely. I sent the link to DH. Tommy liked it. Sherry |

| Beautiful pics, Gean. I like the pastel shades, and the foliage. |

| Krikit, that's real sweet of you. My flicker account is public so if you want so see a few other pics, you can just click on one of the pics above and then click on geanann's photostream. That should take you into the album. Krista, I am so glad you liked the pictures. I know you like the pale colors. I do too. Kristin, thank you very much. I am excited to see what Dev will do in the next couple of years. Gean |

| Sherry, I planted FW last fall sometime, so it's only about a year old. It really is a machine - it has not ever bspotted and it spent several weeks this summer covered up with a fat zinnia plant that grew over it. I went away for two weeks and left it there, as I wanted to see what would happen to the rose. When I came back and pulled off the zinnia, the thing still hadn't bspotted, with not much sun and little air. I never cut off any of the buds, it just blooms and blooms. I have put milorganite on it several times this summer; it seems to like that fertilizer. I hope that you will love yours. Gean |

| Gean, those are two beautiful roses!! I've always been tempted to try Devoniensis but for fear of it being covered with thrips I just haven't. |
RE: Devoniensis and Faith Whittlesey
| | |
| Thank you Hamp. If it only blooms in September, though, thrips shouldn't be a problem!! Just kidding, but I read on HMF that it takes eight years (gulp!) for it to come into its own. I hope I am still alive to see it. :) |

| Okay...where did ya'll get your Faith Whittlesey from? It is bush form or a climber? I might need Faith in my yard....LOL Deb |
RE: Devoniensis and Faith Whittlesey
| | |
| Deb, I got mine from Roses Unlimited. She's a good grower already though still small, of course. A nice round shape and healthy. You know RU sells nice big plants so you can't go wrong. Hopefully, they have at least one for you. :)) Sherry |
RE: Devoniensis and Faith Whittlesey

| Is your Devoneinsis the bush or the climber? |
RE: Devoniensis and Faith Whittlesey
| | |
| Did both of you find that Faith Whittlesey was small when mature (HMF says 30")?? Resistant or not to powdery mildew? Thanks! Nate |
RE: Devoniensis and Faith Whittlesey

| I just had my first large Devoniensis bloom and it had a fragrance unlike any of my other roses like sweet honey and something else like green herbs. Is that what they call tea fragrance? |
RE: Devoniensis and Faith Whittlesey
| | |
| Haven't smelled Devoniensis. To me, tea rose scent isn't as sweet as honey, but smells somewhat like a packet of tea or an unsmoked cigar. |

| Yes, Faith Whittlesey is between 2 1/2 and 3 feet at maturity up here. It might get larger in a much warmer climate, but it's not my impression that it does, based on pics of it in Florida that I saw on hmf. This is my thread from a number of years ago while living in north Alabama. I brought the rose here to the PNW and it does pretty well up here also. I haven't noticed any pm on it and it hasn't had any bs since it's been planted, about 4 springs ago. I hope you like your Devoniensis, Kitty. I think it is a great tea rose. It does have a typical tea scent, I seem to remember. I grow it here too, but haven't gotten many blooms yet. |
