What's blooming now

We had a light freeze last mornings, with temps going down to around 0/-1 C, but some roses were not impressed by it at all.

Kathleen Harrop is almost too bright for this time of the year, new canes got a bit of mildew, but then again, quite a few roses got it now.

Symphatie is blooming again

My tiny Blush Noisette insists on blooming. She is only like 20 cm tall, I hope for her growing more next season:

Narrow Water - it has a few blooms, but overall I hoped it would grow more than it did this year:

I got this hybrid musk labeled as Penelope - I am almost sure that the tag was incorrect, but it is a very lovely rose non the less:

Perle d'Or - I was surprised actually that it had a good second flush despite the weather, when a lot of other roses balled and were miserable in general. Seems like indestructibility of polyanthas is strong in this one.

Unknown polyantha-ish rose, looks lovely with the rest of OGRs and annuals.

Dame de Coeur - one of the older HTs, blackspot disaster in my garden. She has a decent autumn flush though, so might give her a chance still to impress me next year.

Bouquet Parfait - it is actually NOT blooming at the moment, but I think I forgot to show this pic from the summer, of him living in the pot gheto. He grew quite a bit since then though.

Belle Epoque - it is not antique and not even my favorite, but the color is something really amazing in cool autumn weather (it looks like crap in summer though, generic pink orange). It would be my favorite in eternal autumn climate. :D

And random companions: lavatera "Park Alley", a sunflower and some seeded cosmos.

Elemire,
Your roses are beautiful and I like your non-yellow sunflower. The thought of eternal autumn could make me cry like a baby.
Thanks for your pictures,
Kitty

Hehe I actually quite like autumn, ever since I got my first batch of autumn crocus. :D It is still too early for them here and I don't have that many, but in my old garden now there is a sea of crocus and colchicums blooming under the trees - beats even the spring bloomage, since it is something you do not expect in the late autumn. Yep I like the autumn, especially all the berries, leave colors and the golden sunshine. :D

So many lovely pics, autumn is a wonderful season.

I really like the Noisettes, I've been pleasantly surprised at how well Blush Noisette tolerates the cold.

You're right autumn is pretty and pretty short. I guess eternal winter is what would make me cry like a baby. Someone around here keeps reminding me that fall is just one instant before winter (Not the glass is half full kind of mentality.) We're kind of wimps here.

Krista, Do you do anything special to protect your Noisette?

Elemire, What is the purple flower behind your Polyantha-ish rose? They do look pretty together.
Thank you,
Kitty

Kitty, it is cosmos (see link bellow and my last photo), it comes in a shade of purple-violet-pink colors. I usually just buy a pack of two of the seeds in the spring and seed them by just throwing a handful in the flower beds. It also tends to self seed, at least here. It is one of the nicer annuals really, pretty much care free.

Here is a link that might be useful: cosmos

Kitty, the only thing I do for the Noisettes is a few inches of mulch at the base of the rose. I grow a few Noisettes: Blush Noisette, Tutta's Pink Noisette, and Annie Vibert. I added Mme Alfred Carriere to the garden this spring, and the Noisette Hybrid Boule de Niege.

Elemire, I didn't know cosmos came in that pretty purple color. My biggest problem with starting from seed is I get excited come Jan., buy a bunch of seeds and, come spring I completely forget about them with everything else going on. Maybe next year....
Thank you,
Kitty

Krista, Somewhere I read Noisettes wouldn't even grow in zone 5 so, I didn't bother to look. I'm excited to know they could work for me. I've also been given suggestions for roses that HMF says only grow to zone 6. It's hard to know which ones will work.
Thank you,
Kitty

Kitty, I tend to forget about it too, or never get to it, especially the ones that need to be seeded indoors. I like wild flower mixes though - you just throw it in the garden sometime in spring and wait for whatever comes out of it. :D

Regarding noisettes, I think it is mostly those that look a bit like blush noisette can be hardy in z4, at least with winter protection. Noisettes come in quite a broad specter really, some are too tender even for z8, especially tea and noisette hybrids.

No more photos of Bouquet Parfait! I can't take any more temptation. It's too pretty to be true.

Elemire, check 'Cornelia' as a possible ID for not-Penelope. She has coral buds and a lax habit. A very nice rose.

Michael, yes, Cornelia is the first suspect, but I also have real Cornelia in the more shady spot and the color differs, this one is a bit more peachy-pink, also there is slight difference in fragrance. I am going to move the real Cornelia out of that shady spot this autumn, since she is not very thrilled with the spot, so I plan to pot her and see what color and bloom form I get if I place her in the sun next to the impostor Penelope.

Also a vendor promised to replace it to the real Penelope without any fuzz, so hopefully this time it will be correct.

I also saw a very old bush of Cornelia n public garden nearby, she is very lovely indeed.

I think you would like her fragrance too, if you like Jude the Obscure. So far she looks to be a nice climber, so she is getting a good spot in the garden. :D Rebloom looked promising too.
