The Fairy, Crocus Rose and Pretty Jessica on my kitchen windowsill. Asters are "Bluebird". Do you see them growing in my hell strip?

Hi kristin, I live in MN as well. I would love to have Pretty Jessica. What kind of winter protection do you give her? It's nice to know there are other Minnesotans who love roses. Where do you purchase from?
Thank you,
Kitty

Hi MNKitty,

I purchased three Pretty Jessicas from Orion Farm spring of 2008. I don't know if this nursery is still operating. They are grafted so I planted deeply. I rake leaves around them in the fall for protection but that's about it. They die back some, but strangely I get more die-back from the supposedly super hardy Morden Blush. For me, Pretty Jessica has been super healthy with no spray even while my supposedly super-healthy Fairy defoliated.

I have purchased roses from Sam Kedems, Heirloom Roses, and various nurseries close to my home (Bachman's,etc).

The Crocus Rose was purchased from Heirloom and the Fairy was from Home Depot. All have come through at least 2 winters with minimal protection.

Lovely! I've been putting little flowers in the window lately, too.
