The Unvarnished Garden

It's been raining for a few days, rain that we badly needed, and today I walked around and snapped a few pictures without worrying about whether something looked pretty or not. We haven't had much new happening here at the gallery, and it occurred to me to just post pictures of my garden au naturel, the way a garden looks in autumn when not much is blooming and the roses and garden just look rather ordinary, although still pleasing to my eyes.

Sophy's Rose from Chamblee's just arrived yesterday

The graceful bush of Mme. Joseph Schwartz

Mme. Cornelissen, a sport of Souvenir de la Malmaison

Mme. Charles, a tea rose

Aunt Margy's rose, a polyantha that forgot to stop growing

Casey guarding the roses

Burgundy Iceberg with Mutabilis behind it

Very nice, I see no varnish at all. Just nice looking roses.

Wow, Ingrid, nice plants from Chamblees. Gorgeous, spectacular Mme Cornelisson & Mme Charles. I always wanted Mme Charles. Your ground looks a little damp. How nice! I like your unvarnished garden.

Completely utterly charming, Ingrid. I really like posts like these, they give me a greater sense of place, like I'm visiting. Very beautiful.

I really love Burgundy Iceberg. I am thinking about putting in a few Brilliant Pinks and Burgundies in my new bed. No white ones- they just bloom too much and make everything else look lazy.

It is very lovely to get a glimpse of your autumn garden "au naturel" with no staging for a photo shoot!

Sophie's Rose looks so very beautiful and I am truly amazed how large your new roses from Chamblees are, wow!

The bush of Mme. Schwartz is very pretty and I am surprised how many buds this rose has right now. I love the Tea rose Mme. Charles! Am I getting now into soft apricot Tea roses or what?

I think for that it is autumn you have quite a bit of roses blooming! Thanks for sharing them with us!

Thanks so much for your kind comments. I hope this will be an impetus for others to post candid shots of their gardens. Individual flowers are lovely but I find garden shots to be so interesting and satisfying. Seeing people's personalities reflected in their gardens is just the best experience.

Ingrid,
Your ordinary is most people's extraordinary. I think au naturel is best. I can actually feel like I'm there. BTW, my Dad was in town last weekend and he said the janitor at the school was bitten by a rattler. He needed 13 viles of anti-venom. Be careful out there Ingrid.

Kitty, thank you for the compliments and for the warning. We were fortunate to see a beautiful red diamondback rattlesnake last year but have seen none this year at all. I've encountered many over the years and we've never harmed each other, but a bite is no joke and is extremely painful.

What a beautiful garden, Ingrid, (and sweet kitty.)

Isn't it fun when new roses arrive from a vendor, with blooms on them? Sophy's Rose looks like a lovely addition to your garden.
