A Lazy Saturday

It drizzled in the morning and then it turned into a beautiful sunny but not too warm way and I spent quite a bit of time in the garden snapping away with my camera, in spite of the fact that there's not a great deal blooming right now. (That's the beauty of digital cameras, being able to edit out all the lackluster pictures.) I hope you enjoy the pictures that passed the test.

Great photos of your roses and your garden, Ingrid!

Wow, the flower of Alexander Gray Hill took my breath away, what a beautiful rose! It is really promising that a small bush like this can produce already such a large flower. I guess you have something to look forward to as the bush matures in the future.

Mme. Joseph Schwartz also looks amazing. So many nice cupped flowers, just as I like a rose to be :-)!

The shots of the rose are awesome but your dog and cat together on the chair are clearly steeling them the show!

Thanks for posting.

Christina

Mme. Joseph Schwartz is so beautiful. So many blooms!
Your hillside is breathtaking. I love sandstone boulders above all else. I live in the flats, of course, but the Santa Susana Knolls right nearby looks like your area. I have always wanted a house there.

Ingrid, I just got Alexander Hill Gray - no flowers yet. Your pics of him kind of resemble my Anna Olivier, but that's OK because he's going in the backyard. So we'll growing the same babies again. Mme Joseph Schwartz is lovely. I didn't think she had that many petals. Those are the best shots of Mme Cornelisson that I've seen, and your rock is quite a monument. So happy your darlings have learned to share!

Beautiful pictures, Ingrid! How old is your AHG? Do the blooms ever show any deep yellow?

Mme Joseph Schwarz is a beauty.

Cute pictures of your pets. When I was a kid I used to spend some time with my uncle's huge dog. The dog loved the couch, and so did I, but we were not evenly matched for size. Whenever I sat down the dog would get behind me, bunch up its hind legs and give a powerful shove. I would fly off the couch right away:-)

Thank you so much for all your responses. It's a privilege to share rose pictures with an appreciative and knowledgeable audience.

Masha, I just read your story about the dog and the couch to my husband and we both laughed so hard. As for AHG I got him almost exactly a year ago. He would be larger but was transplanted about six months ago and that set him back. So far I haven't seen the deep yellow color you mention.

So Sherry, once again we'll have the same rose. Since yours grow twice as fast as mine it will have caught up in no time. I don't think AHG is the most vigorous tea rose but the flowers make up for it. I'm glad you like Mme. Cornelissen; she's one of my favorite Bourbons.

Christina, I thought AHG would be your kind of rose and I'm glad you finally got to see a flower. As you can see there are more buds and by next year it should be quite a sight.

Mme. Joseph Schwartz seems to vary throughout the year as to how many petals she has. Interestingly, one of the branches has sported back to Duchesse de Brabant and that pink bloom has at least twice as many petals as the DdB that's planted a few yards away. That is a younger plant so hopefully it will develop more petals because the pink rose on Mme. Joseph was awesome.

Renee, I'm glad you liked my boulder, although it's actually granite. That's why I get to garden on soil that's basically decomposed granite. However, the areas that were planted with grass which formed most of the "garden" when we moved in did have better soil and I've amended with mulch and alfalfa meal. I looked up your Santa Susana Knolls and those rock formations are quite spectacular.

Ingrid,
Well, I'm not a knowledgeable audience but definitely appreciative. All of your roses would be a great addition to my garden if only they would survive here.

It's so funny when dogs sleep like that (a true sign of contentment). My cats would never share a spot with our dog even in the sunniest of chairs. He torments them at every given opportunity.

Thank you for the pictures,
Kitty

Aahh, yes, a sunny spot to rest on, cute pic of your kitty and dog, Ingrid.

Beautiful rose pics, I especially like the pic of Mme Joseph Schwartz.
