| Most of my roses are antiques but I've come to realize that it's the new ones that are the most fragrant. Granted, I have many teas, but also a good number of small Bourbons. At any rate my most fragrant ones are Charmian, Sister Elizabeth, Julio Yglesias and Belinda's Dream. Fortunately I have two oldies with a wonderful fragrance, La France and Coquette des Blanches. Two other very early hybrid teas are too young to bloom and I have great hopes for them in the fragrance department.
I'm sure the situation is very different for those of you who don't have teas as mainstays. Would you care to share the names of your very fragrant roses? Ingrid |

| Sweet Chariot, Lavender Lassie, Compte de Chambord, Hansa, Reine des Violettes, and Mme. Alfred Carrie come to mind. But Sweet Chariot, I think it's a newer rose, is one of the most fragrant, especially given the small size of the blooms. |

| Most fragrant - I have lots of them, and of different types. I'm going to mix moderns and olds here: Firefighter; Grandmother's Hat; Yolande d'Aragon; Lemon Spice; Felicite Parmentier; Cymbaline; Strawberry Hill; Golden Celebration; William Shakespeare 2000; The Generous Gardener; Mary Rose (exceedingly fragrant to my nose); Tamora; La Reine; Mme. Plantier; Scepter'd Isle; Abraham Darby; Evelyn; Mr. Lincoln; Jacques Cartier; Mrs. B.R. Cant; Glamis Castle; Pope John Paul II; Tahitian Sunset; Jude the Obscure; Brother Cadfael; Double Delight; Roberto Capucci; Mystic Beauty; Eugene de Beauharnais; Francis Dubreuil; Devoniensis; Carding Mill; Yves Piaget; Sweetness; Secret; Young Lycidas; Old Town Novato; Just Joey....all these roses are very powerfully fragrant to my nose. I have just planted some new ones that I have read to be fragrant or have smelled myself, but did not include them because they're just brand new planted in the past week or so: Munstead Wood; Lady Emma Hamilton: Princess Alexandra of Kent; Tea Clipper (which is very fragrant to me); Gentle Hermione etc...I try (with the exception of the Teas - which are too good to pass up - to only purchase very fragrant roses. Still some of the Teas are powerfully fragrant - Devoniensis is so fragrant I can smell it about 15 feet away (and folks, I don't have the keenest sense of smell) and Our Lady of Guadalupe (which I did not mention because the fragrance is not powerful in itself) wafts its fragrance all around. Great fun these roses. Another one Forest Ranch Purple Pompom. Very fragrant. |
