| Wow! I think they're all lovely! I wish I had room for more too but they do seem to be larger than life when they mature, lol! |
|
| Kate, absolutely gorgeous! I love the glimpses of your garden too. I have only one of your Austins, Pretty Jessica, who's not old enough to show me what she's capable of. I think my favorite is Mortimer Sackler, but it's difficult to choose just one from all these beauties! Ingrid |
|
| Beautiful blooms and iris, great pics. I love the Austins. |
|
| Well what do you know...there really is an Antique Rose Gallery! Great pics, Kate! I especially like Anne Boleyn & Pretty Jessica. Those are two that I don't have. Don't you just LOVE Queen of Sweden? I got mine this past spring and fell in love with it! I'm just hoping it makes a nice bush when it matures. I just can'y seem to tame the octopus canes on some of my Austins :( Tammy |

| I love your short hedge of Queen of Sweden. She looks so fresh. Mortimer Sackler brings back good memories. I grew him in Cornwall, England which has a climate where blackspot reigns. Mortimer Sackler had NONE AT ALL!!! I love the glimpses of your garden too. Have you any more photos of general garden views? Daisy |
|
| Nice pics of you Austins. I loved the vibrant Shakespeare 2000 |

| Thank you for sharing. As are many others I'm also a lover of Austin roses. One of my favorites is Abraham Darby. It is lighter in color than Lady of Shallot. At least in my neck of the woods. It is constantly in bloom. If we are having a super wet spring it may ball for the first flush. I do a quick deadhead and it zooms back with more blooms. Minimal amount of BS. In my no spray garden. I plan to add Happy Chils and Sceptor d'Isle Spring 2013. Jeannie |

| Very, very beautiful! My favorites are Pretty Jessica and Queen of Sweden, but they are all just lovely! Lou |

| As one who loves my Austin roses, I enjoyed these photos so much of yours, Kate. Pretty Jessica is beautiful, and reminds me of Brother Cadfael. What an exquisite rose Queen of Sweden is, and I love the rich color of Shakespeare 2000. Thanks so much for posting. Diane |

| Thank you , everyone, for your kind comments. We have lots of Austin lovers here, don't we! It seems that Pretty Jessica and Queen of Sweden are the most popular of the group--with Morty and Shakespeare 2000 registering some positive responses also. Interesting. If Queen of Sweden would bloom more frequently, I'd probably rate it as one of my very best Austins, but the Queen just does not like my hot, hot, hot summers very much. Shakespeare and Pretty Jessica bloom with much greater regularity, but the best bloomers, without a doubt, are Molineux and Lady of Shalott. All my Austins are quite good to very good as far as disease-resistance goes. And Daisy is right--Mortimer Sackler is highly resistant to disease, as are Queen of Sweden and Lady of Shalott. Tammy, sorry to hear about your octopi problem. Must be regional or something. None of my Austins have that problem. Daisy, I posted some more general garden views over on the regular Rose Gallery, if you care to look. I didn't realize how many people did not know where this Antique Roses Gallery is. Glad you found your way here. And I hope some of you post here also. I'd love to see your roses and gardens. Kate |

| Wow! Your roses look splendid! I never realised how pretty Queen of Sweden can be. She reminds me a lot like Geoff Hamilton. You should definitely get Munstead Wood and perhaps add Young Lycidas to your list. I have both and they look magnificent together. Both of them are my favorite Austins. I am really impressed with Young Lycidas. This rose have large blooms that last for a long time, much longer than my other Austins and sometimes, his fragrance waft around during the heat. |
|
| jumbo, do you have some pics of Young Lycidas? I can't quite visualize it. The pics in Austin's catalogue make it look like it has small blooms--or maybe that's just me gazing askew or something. Got Munstead Wood on order for spring. Can't wait to see it! Love the rich tones of Austin's darker roses. Kate |

| I never knew there was an Antique Rose gallery...thanks to you for the beautiful roses!! I'm so crazy for those Austins, too. I thought the color on Lady of Shalott was especially breathtaking! Really like Happy Child, too...I added that one this spring, and although it did bloom once or twice during the season, I am hoping for more blooms next year. Just lovely!! |

| Thank you for those! I have an Abraham Darby that I think wants more sun, and a Heritage that my daughter gave me this year that bloomed nonstop and has gotten huge. I think I need a red one......Is WS 2000 happy in southern NH? fragrant? |
|
| Sunny, I can't speak for sure about NH (never having been there), but if you mean is it hardy through Zone 5, probably--HMF lists it that way, anyway. Definitely fragrant. Fairly good (but not perfect) disease-resistance. Gorgeous colored blooms. Fairly good at re-blooming. It has a lot going for it and I'd plant a second one if I had room for it. You should know, however, that it has the tendency to stretch out sideways--can get quite wide rather than tall--the ends of the branches getting quite heavy--I sometimes need to prop up the ends so they don't droop to the ground. But I'm getting a bit better at spring pruning them, so it isn't as much of a problem as before. I'm thinking that a light mid-summer prune might help keep that under control--at least it did this year, and I will try it again next year. The color and shape of the bloom is so wonderful--you'll love it. Kate |

dublinbay - Here is my Young Lycidas taken in early Nov: As of today (Dec), the growth habit of Young Lycidas is developing really nicely with plenty of buds without wilting. Temp outside is 33degree C(hot!). |
