 o
Soncy??

Anybody grow this tea and could comment on it? I have been looking to buy Alexander Gray Hill as I want a soft yellow tea but the last time I tried I got an unknown reddish tea instead (which I love and am happy with). In the tea book the authors say that Soncy is the same as Alexander Gray Hill.

Thanks for any info or pictures you can provide.

We grow it. I've never grown 'Alexander Hill Gray' [sic], so can't compare, but I notice in the photos on HelpMeFind.com, AHG seems sometimes to show a bit of pink on fully opened flowers, and at least for us, 'Soncy' never does that.

As Teas go, I'd say it is less vigorous than most, somewhat prone to dieback. But when well-grown, it's a very nice rose. We have two of them in the new FSC rose garden, and they're in great bloom just now.

Here is a link that might be useful: Soncy in the FSC rose garden

Soncy looks a lot like the AHG I had, which never showed any pink, if I recall correctly. It was so badly mildewed that I had to give up on it, in spite of the beautiful flowers.

I have both from two different sources. I find no difference between the two.

They are still young. I must say that they are about the most beautiful flower form in my garden. Both become very white in the summer heat.

I realize I got Alexander Hill Gray's name turned around a little! Thanks everyone for your replies. It sounds like a pretty tea. I don't worry too much about how blooms look in our summer heat because everything looks bad during our awful summers!
