Pegging Henri Martin

Would Henri Martin work pegged?

When do you peg them? Spring when you prune? After leafed out? Also, how many canes do you keep normally? Do you layer them on top of each other? The book I have shows it as a single layer, but that seems like it would be thin. Thanks!

One technique is to peg the outer canes to the ground and the inner canes to the lower pegged canes - not very formal; it creates a nice dense heap. I have no idea of the timing as I just do it when the mood strikes.
